Although I haven’t been posting a painting a day, I have been busy….I was awarded a 3-week artist in residency in Argentina, from Feb to March next year. I’m excited about it and a little nervous too and hope to generate lots of new stuff to post.. I think I’ll be there during the tango festival ( I don’t tango), but it did inspire this piece below.
I’ve started an inidie-gogo campaign to help with expenses if anyone is interested. Here’s the link” https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-grow-a-printmaking-community/x/8421807
Many thanks for your support over the last 2 years!
Loyal Followers! I am happy to present a series of 6 old baseball stadiums– not the 365 of last year!
The backstory, for those of you who are interested, is that I’ve always been a big baseball fan. My first game was at Connie Mack stadium in Philadelphia, I think around 1971. Anyway, it was the last year of that stadiums’ existence and I loved it– the iron grillwork, the red, white and blue bunting everywhere…I felt like I’d stepped back in history. The next year the stadium was demolished to make way for that monstrosity Veterans Stadium. I heard last year, I think, that the Vet was old and outdated and had to be demolished itself. Wait! I remember when that stadium was built! Does that mean I’m that old and outdated too?
Anyway, in homage to all of those old, beautiful stadiums, most of which were gone before I was born or soon after, I decided to paint a sliver of them from the fans’ point of view. I might add a few more- maybe Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field ( still in existence). I’d like to hear what you think!
Someone carved these words at Ocean Beach and I thought it was a perfect ending to this project. Many many thanks to you, loyal followers! There were so many times when I almost gave up , not feeling like painting or thinking that nobody was interested, but then I’d get your likes and comments and they kept me going.
What now? Well, a few things: I do want to do a regular kind of art project ( but not every day!) and a friend suggested that periodically, maybe every 2 weeks or every month, I ask you all for a prompt. Then, if I get any responses, I’ll list them and pick one, and later post the result. But I’m open to other ideas– please send them to me!
The other thing: I’m looking for a space to display all 365 of these 4″ x 4″ paintings all together but haven’t found a place yet. Does anyone know of a place that might be interested?
Happy New Year to everyone, and keep it up ( whatever it is that you do)!
After a freezing snap a few weeks ago, it’s been ungodly warm around here.. I saw this guy on the beach relaxing with a book as if it were summer.
Some optimistic graffiti written on the promenade wall at Ocean Beach…
Passed this lady on the corner. She wasn’t selling anything, not asking for donations for anything, just spreading the word with a big smile.
I thought this simple wreath and white light decoration running the length of a wall was beautiful.
It seems crazy that this scene exists at Christmas…but here it is: golfers hanging out at one of the greenest places in California while everything else turns brown in way above average warmth and extreme drought.
These houses nearby are all lit up for Chirstmas. I still love walking around and looking at the displays. They seem pretty good this year.
Ferry building still life… with pigeons.
